Drummer, Percussionist, Band Leader, Webb Thomas is by no means a stranger to Jazz circles in the Tri-state area and beyond. His groups Webb T’s Fleet, Webb Thomas Trio,4 eternity, The Soul Patrol, & Webb Thomas’s Superband always thrills audiences to the highest level of performances.
Webb’s appearances in Mellon Jazz Festivals and Cape May Jazz Festivals have been stellar, an extraordinarily versatile drummer, Webb has made quite a name for himself locally, nationally, and abroad. He has been a promoter for one of Philly’s Jazz landmark clubs, Zanzibar Blue during its heyday performing with such notables as Doug Carn, David “Fathead” Newman, Jane Bunnett and the Spirits of Havana. He was also featured with Mr. Killer Joe himself Benny Golson.
The Superband Quest for Tradition has a need to expose the audience to the forgotten Jazz composers of yesterday and today.
We have noted composers of Jazz that are all house: hold names that we all are aware of. Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Henri Mancini, Dave Brubeck, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Scott Joplin, Charlie Parker.
Is the Jazz audience aware of Tom Macintosh, Jack Wilson, Duke Pearson, Nat Adderley, and Sonny Clark? These are composers that are not mainstream names as some of their contemporaries are that we know of today but are just as important to the Jazz Legacy as we know it.
Webb Thomas and The Superband Quest is to enlighten the audience’s ear to compositions that they may not have heard on mainstream radio AirPlay with a new ear of appreciation for an exciting level of performances. The Superband features Patrick “Face” Rickman on Trumpet, Robert Landham on Alto Saxophone, Adam Faulk on Piano, Lee Smith on Bass and Webb Thomas on Drums.
