Joy Massie is an African American vocalist, currently residing in Philadelphia, PA. Playful yet
introspective, her melodic style reflects her love of rhythm and blues, funk, reggae, rock, jazz
and gospel.
Born and raised in Lake Charles, LA, her hometown was rich in Creole and Cajun culture, not
to mention the rich musical heritage that was and still is associated with Southwest Louisiana.
Her musical influences and role models were singers like Tremaine Hawkins, Billie Holiday,
Anita Baker, Marvin Gaye, Gwen McRae, Joe Simon, Minnie Riperton, Natalie Cole, and her
father, the late Harry L. Tribbitt, Sr. Having discovered early on that music would be a large
part of her future, she wasted no time studying and performing in town, in Louisiana State
Choirs and festivals throughout the Unites States.
She studied Vocal Performance at Bishop State Community College and The University of South
Alabama in 1997 and has been performing ever since. She’s worked with LeAndria Johnson,
Fred Hammond and Hezekiah Walker while her most notable work was a three year contract
with Carnival Cruise Lines from 2005-2008.
Ever evolving, she hopes to release an extended EP within the next year.
